Movie: Our Brand is Crisis

Our Brand is Crisis : How american marketing skanks leap into Bolivia.

I am not a documentary film big fan and Michael Moore is not my hero. I hate politics and the only time I came close to politics was when I had Political Science 101 for my general education requirement. This political influence document film though striked me as something that I would check it out. I guess I have to make a trip to Block Buster this weekend.

Art: Two-headed Llamas & Giant Pink Snails!

On Friday the 24th I saw Dr. Dolittle at the Pantages. It was my first encounter with this classic story in any medium, and I'm assuming that at 90 minutes I got the shortened version of much longer saga. It was a bizarre little tale that must have been written under the influence of some mind-altering drugs.

My impressions of the production: Tommy Tune was very fun to watch, and also kind of sexy...but I'm weird like that. The best part was the circus number with the two-headed Pushme Pullyu (or vice-versa?) llama. The little kid who played Chi-Chi the monkey can tap dance like a mo-fo. The giant pink french snail named Jacques Pierre really freaked me out.

Also on my Pantages agenda for 2006-- CATS, Les Miserables, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Little Women.

Movies, Whatever: Brokeback Mountain Memorabilia

In case you missed them on Ebay, here are photos of the Brokeback Mountain dolls, complete with campsite accessories, horses, and dog. I just love them!

Shopping: Academy Award Sale

Since I live in California, I just can't seem to be able to avoid running into anything Hollywood and Academy Award related. The relationship between me and Academy Award went sour since 1999. I hate watching E channel or those pre-award shows. Yes the fashion, the dress, the glam and the lime light are extravagant, but I feel like they are a bunch of people who use the awards to make them "it."

Sorry for dragging and being so bitter about it. Sundance Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival or maybe even Chinese Film Festival is more likely to excite me more than the Academy Awards.

Back to my topic of the day, shopping online. You can hate the ceremony as much as you want but you can’t deny that there are many quality films out there that got nominated and so worth to own in DVD.

Check out Barnes and Noble special for this Oscar season.

These are some of the movie that you have not watched it; you should take this opportunity to own the DVD or even rent them.

Casablanca. If this western classic movie doesn’t turn you on, you need to become a nun.

Rosemary’s Baby by Roman Polanski. Yes he is a pervert but the movie before all hell broke lose is awesome.

Ordinary People. Even the list of the cast will make you shiver.

All About EVE.

Shopping: Leggings, Knee-highs, Tights, OH MY!

I have tons of skirts, but I usually don't wear them because A)I'm uncomfortable with the mini-length or B)my office is too cold for bare legs. This season I've realized that the solution is tights.

I'm obsessed with the footless leggings trend because they make my mini-skirts wearable. And it's so much fun to pair my office attire with colorful, bold opaque tights. I want them in every color and style!

In my quest for a closet full of funky, original legwear, I was so excited to find Mytights.com. This site has an amazing selection of tights, leggings, knee-highs, hosiery, shapewear and accessories in all the best brands. This is especially useful if you are looking for unique patterns and colors. My goal is to wear skirts at least once a week for the rest of the winter season.

Music: Arctic Monkeys and Wankers

Finally Arctic Monkey is coming to the record stores near your house.

Knowing them since last year, I could not wait to put my pretty hands on their new debut cd. This funky new band from Sheffield is not The Subways (I adore them by the way). They are not going to be on The OC soundtrack and they are not going to stop using the word Wankers just to impress or please you. They are brit after all and their sure have music and attitude just like The Clash and the Sex Pistols. There will be three types of people who will pick up this cd. First is those Silverlake hipsters ( urrhgg), second is music lover who just want to own all the cds that come out via indie record lable. Third is those who like to dance to brit rock and want to look good on the dance floor. I am half second and third type. Hipster trend is dead by the way.

Movies: Weekend Recap

Because I don't have the time, energy, or self-discipline to create full-fleged reviews, here's a recap of what I saw this weekend.

The United States of Leland - SLOW and predictable, but kept me interested. I generally like Jena Malone's movies, but it's starting to seem like she plays the same character in every one--and that is getting old. Ryan Gosling is hot, but his meek little boy voice was not.

Roll Bounce - I saw this in the theater and rented it again because there's really nothing better than roller skating and disco. This film is my ultimate guilty pleasure, right along with my copy of ABBA and Thank God It's Friday. I also respect Shad Moss (Bow Wow) for choosing a film in which he had to set aside his hip-hop image and wear tight white jeans.

Radio - Mostly it just made me sad. Sad because it was a true story. And sad because Cuba Gooding Jr made Snow Dogs, Boat Trip, and Men of Honor.
