Whatever: Just say no to drunk dialing

How would you like a cell phone with a built-in breathalyzer?

That's right, cell phones with built-in Breathalyzers are set to hit the U.S. market. So after a night of too much to drink, you can pull out the device to see if you're fit to get behind the wheel.

The LP4100 also allows users to set up the phone so on certain nights and after a certain time they do not call certain people in their phone book. Think ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend.

If you have a blood alcohol level over .08, the phone will not let you dial that person. So it not only promotes sobriety, but chastity — and probably your dignity, as well.
This would have saved me a lot of humiliation back when I was single...

Fashion: H&M ohlala

H&M I just can't wait until H&M opens up their stores here in the land of Sun and fake tan. My buddy Daria is oh so lucky since she is moving East and we are all know that there are H&M on every corner.

Hideout UK
Normally, when we talk about the UK, we think damp, no real sky to speak over and everyone is always pissed off, drunk or both. Yuck. However, London does posess something cool like Hideout. Full of the kind of items you'll want to own and pour all your hard earned money on. Check it out and share me your thoughts. Oh the store is guy oriented but who says girls can't wear what guys wear!!?

Shop by Color
Shop WiKi is a place to be if you know exactly what you want. The site works similar to Google's Froogle but you can find an item that you want by using color chart and price range tool for your search.

Shopping online never been easier. Bless the net!

Music:Music you should check out this month

it is 4 hrs passed my bedtime but I am still awake and trying to blog something useful...So I heard that Radiohead is coming out with a new CD. Can't wait to see that. No Surprise and Creep are still my fave songs from them so far. Let's see if their new album will win me over.

Thom is efing sexy.

Dashboard Confessional's new cd is coming on June 27. I heard a couple of songs from this new album and I have to say that they are kind of cheesy but just to look at Chris face and hear his screaming voice those are enough reasons to get his new cd. Dang the dude is hot.

Farewell for now.

Movies: Kate Beckinsale is dull as toast

I watched Underworld: Evolution this week. Now, let me preface my reaction by saying that I somewhat enjoyed the first Underworld...but that's because I'm a sucker for fangs (pun not intended, but funny!). There's nothing sexier than a pale, androgynous Brad Pitt or Stephen Dorff who wants to bite your neck. Vampires are hot, period. Vampire movies, ridiculous as they may be, are usually sexy and fun to watch.

However, I felt a strong revulsion towards this sequel. Partly because I've started to realize what a hack Kate Beckinsale is (I'm still angry over Click, and let's face it Serendipity, Pearl Harbor, and Van Helsing were all steaming piles). So it got me thinking, has this bitch ever made a decent movie or proved herself to be anything other than a somewhat attractive girl with an accent? There's Brokedown Palace, but otherwise NO. She has no personality and her presence in this movie bores me to no end. And really, her costume in the Underworld movies is beyond ridiculous...

Add that to the completely convoluted plot, and by the end I was really just sorry to have wasted my precious time. The only enjoyment I got from this movie was watching Scott Speedman -- yum.

Californication Update

A while back I made a list of things to do before leaving my home state of Cali. My quest is almost complete!

1) I went to Disneyland a few weeks ago with the fam. Space Mountain was finally open-- and to my relief they didn't change it too much, just spruced it up a bit without losing it's original charm. The only bummer was that Pirates was closed for renovations (due to the upcoming movie sequels no doubt) and we missed it's re-opening by a few weeks. I am very worried about what they are going to change. My feeling is, they can add things, not take them away. Don't F with a classic ride just because the movie was a big hit. Let's remember that the movie was ALREADY based on the ride. And that's my open letter to the execs at Disney, how very professional of me!

2) As for Vegas-- I have a trip planned for the 4th of July with my homegirls. It will be our last hurrah in Sin City before I move. WooHoo! I know the east coast has Atlantic city...but um, no thanks.

3) Yesterday I spent the day with my hubby at Huntington beach...it was lovely! We rode our bikes along the trail, got lazy in the sand, and even had tropical drinks while watching the sunset. I didn't want the day to end...it was perfection.

4) I finally broke my diet and had In-N-Out this weekend. It was tasty, but I have to say I won't miss it that much. The new trend of Asian salads at fast food restaurants has helped me enjoy eating healthy without craving burgers. Believe it or not, the one at McDonald's is the best so far. It was fresh, colorful, and delicious--I didn't even need to add dressing!

Movies, Music: Brooklyn knows how to party

This weekend I watched Dave Chappelle's Block Party. It's basically just a documentary about a concert he threw in Brooklyn-- there's not much in the way of comedy from him (if that's what you are expecting). But it's worth watching for the amazing performances. Can I just say, Mos Def is ADORABLE and I love him!!

Jill Scott was probably my favorite-- I wasn't too familiar with her music before seeing the movie, but now she's definitely on my wish list. And as for The Fugees and their big reunion, I have been a huge fan ever since I was 14, so it was great to see them perform again. I don't understand what is up with Lauryn Hill's voice though... Watching the party made me wish I had been invited.

Whatever: What I am upset about..

As we all know, I just got back from Thailand. It was a great 3 weeks of my life. I am looking forward to go back again hopefully next year. Three of my good friends were there with me and I hope they had a blast.

There is one thing that totally upset me though. Some of Taxi and Tuk Tuk drivers there are a%#holes. Only a couple of them try to jack up the fare eventhough they are taxi meters...One of the Tuk Tuk drivers was trying to scam my friends when I am not with them. I wish I wrote down their names and license numbers so I can report them to the authorities( and I hope the authorities are going to do something about this). If Thailand is promoting tourism but these small group of crooked people are trying to rip off tourists, who would want to recommend their friends to visit Thailand? Its embarassing and upsetting to me and all my friends who live there.

OK sorry for the anger. Anyways, other than those couple of crooked, I ran into the nicest taxi and tuk tuk drivers ever. They are honest and hard working and I feel for them. I think they save my trip because I would not dare drive on any streets of Bangkok. It's a jungle out there.

The World Cup: Go Brazil!

I have never watched soccer games, or followed The World Cup before--BUT--I know first hand how hot soccer players can be, particularly the Brazilian variety... In college I lived in a co-ed dorm next to a smoking hot soccer player from Brazil named Eddie (or, Eduardo, as I prefer to think of him). He used to sweet-talk me with promises of visitng the rainfalls in his native land...Sigh.

So, in the spirit of The World Cup I am rooting for Brazil and scoping out the team. Here are a few dreamy players I've found so far:

Whatever: Thailand Trip Update

I just got back from my 3 weeks vacation in Thailand. After this wonderful trip, I can’t wait to move to Krabi for my golden years.

I asked a couple of my friends who were also on this trip of a lifetime about what they liked the most about Thailand. Here are the top 4 reasons why Thailand rocks:

1. Thai food
2. Girls
3. Everything is so cheap!
4. Beaches in the south

Now I am going to reveal what they wish Thailand did’t have:

1. Lady Boys who look just like girls
2. Hot humid sweaty weather
3. Traffic that makes the 405 freeway look like an angel
4. Scary Tuk Tuk or Taxi drivers

Oh and if you are planning to visit Thailand soon, make sure to stick with indoor food and don’t eat street food. Your stomach tends to be weaker than locals. If you don’t want to have an upset stomach for 3 days, stick to the indoor food!

Now I will shortly mention places to go but I promise I will talk about them in more detail.

Night Life

If you are looking forward to having a good time and maybe get laid, you should head to Silom. Most of people who hang out there tend to speak English really well and are down to party till dawn. Be careful not to run into lady boys, gays or hookers though. Trust me they are everywhere on that strip. You will also see foreigners and old men with young Thai girls. Sometimes if you are lucky, you will also see lots of old men with young Thai boys. There are many pubs and lounges on that strip, and they mostly play house and techno music. The majority of them have little seating areas outside, and the decor of each place is cozy and chill.

If you are looking to check out where the locals hang out, you should head to RCA (Royal City Avenue). It’s a long strip with many clubs/bars and lounges. The parking is a bitch, but if you have some extra cash to spare, you can always tip those parking attendants to get a VIP parking spot. Also make sure not to lose the parking ticket because they won’t let you out and if you escape, they will hunt you down and kick your car. (Trust me on this, I saw it with my own eyes and my friend got her car kicked).

You can be inside and standing up dancing along with 1000 sweaty Thai people-- or you can be outside at your private table and open Black Label and mixers for $2000 bath (about $50 all night). It’s wiser to open a bottle and order mixer than to order mixed cocktails all night. You'll see all kinds of people but mostly locals. Most Thai girls weight about 70 lbs and the average Thai guy weighs about 100 lbs. So be prepared because you will want to get liposuction the next day.

Shopping

Bangkok is the best place to shop. You can shop for everything your heart desires. They have everything from movies, clothes, shoes, accessories, house decorative items, food, electronics.

If you want to buy something to bring back home for your family and friends as gifts, you should check out Suan Lum Night Bazarr. It starts after 6 PM every night and there are many vendors that it will take you 2 nights to walk through all the shops. You can also sit outside and chill at the beer gardens before heading back to the hotel. Tips: Bargain and keep walking and looking. A lot of vendors carry the same items so luck is on your side. You can bargain and if they don’t give the right price to you, you can pretend to walk away. They usually will give you the price you want. If not you can always come back for the cheapest price.

MBK- Siam Square – Lido Theatre and Bonanza

These places are in the same area. Again you will need about 2 days to finish these places. They are full of local brands and this is where local teenagers hang out. There are many interesting shops, vendors both for clothes, shoes, accessories and many eatery places. It is in a center of Bangkok so traffic is pretty gruesome but you can always take Sky train and walk with locals. I am sure you will get so many things to bring home from here.

Jatujak

Beware of the heat. It is an outdoor weekend flea market. You should wear a tank top, t-shirt or shorts. Sandals are a good idea since it can get pretty ekky after a while. There are many unique and eccentric shops here. There are thousands of people on the weekend so take the sky train and be prepare for the crowd.

Season Square

My fave place to shop if you don’t want to fight with traffic, parking and people. Shops are not as fun as MBK, Siam Square or Jatujak but it is the best place to eat and to buy movies. It is close to my house and I just love the selection of restaurants here. You can’t go wrong. You can finish this place in one day. Oh did I mention that it’s indoors so the air conditioning is on!!!

I will end with a website that mentions Lady Boys in Thailand...very interesting...BTW we dont call them lady boys. We call them Katoey.

Movies: Munich, Game 6, X-Men 3, Shopgirl, Rumor Has It, Something New

Munich
Depressing, but good. I don't really see the need to ever watch it again, but it did shed a lot of light on the ongoing hatred between Jews and the Middle East.

Game 6
(The one with Michael Keaton about the Red Sox curse)
Ok, it started out REALLLY boring. But in the end it slightly redeemed itself. Overall, it was a very weird movie that made Boston look a bit scary and gross...and since I'm moving there soon it freaked me out a little. But, then again the movie was set in 1986. Also, Robert Downey Jr. is a total freak in this movie; it's almost worth watching just for his character.

X-Men: The Last Stand
I liked it way better than X-Men 2. My favorite was tranny mutant (the one who gave out shockwaves-- he reminded me of Ricky from My So-Called Life). But I still think this series tries to pack too many characters into too short a time frame. Why was the movie so dang short? Why is Cyclops such a whinny bitch? And what the hell is so special about Jean Gray that all these men are gaga over her to the point of having their skin ripped off? I feel that Rogue should have played a larger role and they need to bring Gambit into the picture. I hope this isn't the end of the X-men movies. Most of the characters are still so young-- hopefully it will continue.

Shopgirl
Beautiful, funny, moving, and insightful. I was impressed by Steve Martin's adaptation of his novella. I only wish that I had read it before seeing the movie.

Rumor Has It...
A complete waste of my time. Blasphemous to true fans of The Graduate. On a side note, RIP Anne Bancroft.

Something New
Hilarious and soooo cute! Deals with what interracial couples have to face in an honest and realistic way-- more so than I've ever seen in a movie. And yet it isn't too heavy in tone; it's still a romantic comedy, but it's smart and touching rather than superficial.

Music: Brazilian Girls - BUY THIS CD NOW

So last month Tasp gave me a bunch of cd's to listen to--because she is super cool and so is her taste in music. Speaking of Tasp, she is vacationing in her native land of Bangkok, Thailand and I MISS HER. :(

Anywho...One of the cd's she passed my way was the Brazilian Girls. It sat in my car for about two weeks and this morning I finally popped it in. HOLY CRAP. It is so great! I can't recommend it enough. It's like Astrud Gilberto meets Portishead. If that's not intriguing enough, it's peppered with German, French, English, and Spanish lyrics.

I am commanding whoever reads this to check out the Brazilian Girls on Myspace and then buy their kick-ass album. You will thank me.
