Impatient lady

I am going to watch the film Half Nelson with my buddy on Sunday at the Art Theatre close to my friend's house. I am looking forward to it.

Mister Monster decided to get depressed, and his subsequent public drinking excursion got him in some trouble with the law... I hadn't heard from him in two days, and all of a sudden he called with the news...drama drama drama but he still wants to take me out for dinner. He's a bad boy, but he's sweet. I smell trouble.

I called him the next day to check up on him. Brought him some baja mexican food and enjoyed watching Fargo. The gross scene at the end of the movie made me want to puke, but I contained myself. Phew that was close! A little flirting and chit chat commenced after the movie. I actually finally believe that he might like me in a more than friendly way! So why the hell hasn't he tried to kiss me yet, maybe I act too butch? Maybe I'm too nice...I believe the day is coming, but I might not be very excited when it happens...I am impatient and really sick of waiting.

Film: Ali G oh wait no it's Borat

If you have not seen Ali G the movie, you might want to stop acting too cool and watch it. It is indeedly hilarious. So there! go and rent it! But now I will be talking about Borat. One of the characters that Sacha Baron Cohen created and performed. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is his new movie that I can't wait to see it. I dont' know why it takes way so long to be out in the US, but I am patiently waiting for it to be released here. Any day now i hope..

Check out the trailer..It's one of the funniest films that I have seen for a while.

Shopping: The upside of rain

Apparently in Boston, getting sunshine two days a week is something to excited about. But I refuse to let the rain and gloomy skies get me down. As we head towards the holiday weekend, which I've just learned has been forecasted as soggy (thanks Ernesto), I am keeping my chin up by doing what any girl would: shopping! Check out my new shiny rainboots:

Target.com has a fabulous variety, all for under $20!!! They actually make me hope for rain.

Film: Mutual Appreciation

Mutual Appreciation
Everybody is coming out with independent project these days. Andrew Bujalski is also one of them. He has several independent projects under his belt such as Funny Ha Ha. Mutual Appreciation is his second try and he is "the director who filmed on 16mm black and white". This time around the film has more going on than the last and I heard that the cast is superb..

Dating Chronicles of Jane - Wedding Date or Wedding Crasher

Mister Movie emailed me yesterday and asked me if I am planning to attend his friend's wedding as his date in November. I was skeptical at first and just not sure if I should go or not.

A good friend of mine told me to go for it and just have a little fun. I decided to take her advice and attempt to have fun. Not the dirty kind of fun you guys are thinking about. Fun as in going to a wedding with a guy who you met over a year ago and have not seen since but keep in touch via phone calls and emails incase you need favors in the future. Fun as in dressing up all pretty and have no idea who will be there at the wedding. That kind of unfamiliar fun...

Music:Band of the week and the rest of what I have to say

Band of the week:Menswear

Another Brit rock pop band out of Blur but don’t ignore them right away. Listen to their Daydreamer track. So groovy, so cute!

Site of the week: Superfuture

Since I am taking a trip on November to the East Coast, the more information and tips of where to party, eat, hang out and shop in NYC, Boston and maybe DC would be great. Superfuture.com is very cool site that show where to shop and the map of shopping and stores. Now I just have to worry about my budget!

Festival: Sunset Junction

Last year I attened the Sunset Junction and had a chance to check out The Walkman performance in Silver Lake. I remember that I did not pay any $ to get to the festival and it was pretty fun. The funnel cake and cheap beer was awesome. The hotdog ( big one) was very yummy and I just can’t wait to be there and experience it all over again..But wait! This year it will be $15!? WTH..I don’t know man!!! I spend $15 last year and to have all those fun..Now it will be $15 plus beer, funnel cake and a hotdog!? Why everything has to become so commercialize and about $? Yikes! If you are not pain in the a$% like me you can sure check out the event..I am sure they still have many things ( many good bands like Eels, Black Label Motorcycle Club and more) so check it out yo!

Film:Haven

I can’t seem to figure out reasons why Orlando Bloom is so popular among girls. I have to be honest thought that his new movie that is coming out on September 15 is going to be good. Haven. It looks like something between Traffic and Constant Gardener. Now that is a drama and it doesn’t hurt that it flimed in beautiful in West Indies Paradise.

Dating Chronicles of Jane - Settle Down

August 20, 2006

I've decided that I will have to tell Mister Extreme that things won’t work out between us. I keep asking myself what is wrong with me. He is kind, sweet, smart and has everything going for him. Either I don’t like nice guys or I'm just not ready to settle down.

Dating Chronicles of Jane - Puppy Stares at me

Summary: Monday - Mister Monster. He called me finally. We went to this cantina close to my house and his puppy pooped in his car. No good night kiss yet but had a 5 min conversation in the car while his puppy stared at me.

Had not heard from him over the weekend but the last time we talked was short and nice.

He called yesterday, and we went out and had a simple and relaxing dinner. He decided to move in with his friend, which will allow him to have a backyard for his dogs, a swimming pool, and most important of all a garage. It kind of makes me sad because we won't be able to hang out whenever we want anymore. He said “I will still be your biking buddy." Should I just settle for that?

We talked in the car for 5 mins before I told him I will let him go so he can rest for an early day tomorrow. He said he wasn't going to bed till later. I left anyways, and an hour later I realized that he was giving me the hint that he wanted to be invited upstairs.

Will he call again? To be continued…

Road Trip: From Mississippi to Connecticut

I haven't been able to blog until now because states like North Carolina don't have much in the way of wireless internet access...

Day 6 (Tuesday): We spent the morning sightseeing in New Orleans, and even though the humdity was almost unbearable, we didn't want to leave because there was so much to see! We had breakfast at a small cafe and checked out some of the shops. Unfortunately, we weren't able to check out the above ground cemetary where Marie Laveau is buried, because according to several locals we spoke to, the cemetary is right near the projects where crime is rampant and tourists who aren't on a guided tour are easy targets... At least we got to see the Voodoo museum, which was totally spooky and awesome! (Pictures will follow soon...)

Around noon we had to take off and get back on the road-- our plan was to head towards Virgina (about 15 hours from Louisiana) where my good friend offered to let us stay for a night. Random thoughts about the states we passed:

Mississippi-- Swampy. Not much to see.

Alabama-- Rainstorms, lightning, trees, trees, weird folks, and oh yeah more trees. We stopped at a Dairy Queen and the employees working there were kind of like zombies...comfortably numb, as my husband put it. FREAKS.

Georgia-- More trees! More rain! We finally got tired and had to find a hotel around 10pm. We ended up staying at a Ramada Inn in a little town called Conyers, which is right past Atlanta.

Day 7 (Wednesday): After passing through Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, we made it to my friend's lovely house in Suffolk, Virginia by late afternoon. I got to meet her 8 month old baby girl, her fiance, and her super cute lab retriever named Beau- and it was so nice to stay in a home rather than a hotel room. I have to say being in such a quiet area is eerie at first...it's weird not to hear the sounds of a city. But from what I saw Virgina was a beautiful state.

Day 8 (Thursday): Which brings me to today-- probably one of the most exciting stretches of the trip as far as freeway scenery goes. We left early in the morning and headed north towards Virgina beach. We got to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, which is this incredible stretch of highway over the Atlantic Ocean. After that we crossed into Delaware, and what caught my attention in the first state (a fact which was advertised IN EVERY POSSIBLE LOCATION) were all the huge, gorgeous houses.

We went through the New Jersey Turnpike, and then passed by New York!! I was so excited when the NYC skyline came into view, and I even got a picture of the sign that said "Welcome to Manhattan"! Even though we were just driving through, it was awesome.

So now we are at a hotel in Milford, Connecticut (which is another scenic state, by the way, with lots of boats, churches, and beautiful homes) getting some much needed rest. Tomorrow we only have about three hours until we get to Boston and move into the new apartment! Phew, it's been fun but I am sick of driving. I recommended Texas, New Orleans, Virginia, and everything north of that. But "The South" in general...um, not so much.

Art:Random news and art event in Socal

As I posted late last month, me and a Princess are going to see the Cabaret show, L’effleur Des Sens , at the King King in Hollywood. We are having dinner right before the show at Pig and Whistle outdoor patio. if you happen to be around there, stop by and say hi.

We found out from last time we were at The King King for Taking the Jesus Pill that we have to be there by 8 pm or even sooner. First come first serve term never scares me until now.

This post is going to be one of those random posts I did in the past, so I just want to prepare you for it.

Currently listening to Art Start by Yeah Yeah Yeahs

I am not really a cat person despite the fact that I used to have 2 cats when I was in collge ( and got sick every day of the week during that period of time). Eventhough I prefer canine over feline anyday now, I think kitty is one of the cutest creatures ever and it doesn't hurt to admire someone cat..from far away.. How to Smuggle a Kitty

Art: Art Crawl

It's a biological fact that some things go inside our bodies, and other things come out. But "Into Me/Out of Me," on view at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, doesn't spare the gruesome details. The exhibition includes work by over 130 artists who have, together, spent the past forty years probing the inner reaches, outer extremities and other ins-and-outs of our anatomy. The superficial, TMZ and other gossip and celebrity stalker blogs. I love them all and I have to read these blogs on daily (sometimes hourly) basis but sometime you just want to turn your head other way and pretend that you are not intesteded in what Britney Spears are wearing or drinking or why Jessica Simpson is so perky.

These are fresh and fun fashion blogs to watch. Most of the stories and pictures are about normal civilians that we see on the street ( if you live in NYC or Paris that is). Check them out, you might get a fashion tip or twofrom these oh so cool civilians.

Road Trip: The Big Easy

Ok so I can't upload photos right now due to technical difficulties, but I will add them later. I still must blog about my time so far in Louisiana.

We drove from Texas today into New Orleans, which took about 8 hours on the 10 east. (I still can't believe that the 10 freeway I've been traveling on for years in California goes all the way across the US...)

The coolest part about driving into Louisiana was that in a matter of about 20 minutes I drove across a river, swamp, and bayou on a long stretch of bridge surrounded by massive amounts of trees and vegetation. I saw Lake Atchafalaya, Swamp Henderson, and a Bayou with a French sounding name that I can't remember...

As we drove into New Orleans we saw the Superdome and a sign welcoming back the New Orleans Saints for the upcoming football season!!! It is great to see the city doing so well. We also noticed lingering damage from Katrina...a hotel or home here or there that was being rebuilt. As we entered the French Quarter the streets started to look a little scary, but our hotel turned out to be amazing. I can't believe we only paid $96 for a room that normally costs $350. The room is very large, and the decor is lovely, with quaint european flair. Our room turned out to be on the top floor, with a gorgeous pool and observatory deck on the same level overlooking the entire city. It's just as I imagined our honeymoon might have been!

I wish we had more than one day here, but so far it has been a blast. We partied a bit on Bourbon St, and also got some advice on more "local" spots in the city. Tomorrow we are going to check out a cemetary and perhaps the voodoo museum before we take off...and we are definitely planning a trip back here sometime soon. With a group of friends this city has the potential to be more fun than Vegas! Caution: You will need to endure humidity and rather large cockroaches while outside.

Road Trip Day 3: Down by the river

Wow humidity is not fun. But other than the sticky hot miserable weather, San Antonio is a great city. Yesterday we saw the Alamo and partied on the riverwalk.

We ate at a restaurant called Dick's Last Resort, which is not just a clever name. The waiters are intentionally rude! It's a blast. If you ask for napkins, they will throw them at you. One of the waiters walked past my mom and said, "There's no table dancing here, lady." Sometimes they walk up and put these big paper hats on your head that say mean things. Mine, for example, said IT'S MY BIRTHDAY AND ALL I GOT WAS MY PERIOD. The funnest thing about this place is that the customers are allowed to throw napkins too (there are rules to napkin throwing listed, such as they must be dry)!! So it ends up being like a big food fight (minus the food) with everyone throwing paper napkin balls at across the room, trying to hit someone or land one in an unsuspecting beverage.

I'm so glad we chose Dick's over the fancy restaurant we originally planned on...dining out is so much more fun when the waiters are yelling obscenities and you can throw things!! Oh, and I just found out there's a Dick's in Boston. Woohoo!

Road Trip Day 2: Sippin' Vodka in San Antonio

Day 2 of the drive was filled with sporadic rain storms, lightning, and more desert scenery. Every half mile or so on the 10 freeway in Texas you'll see the following signs: Drive Friendly the Texas Way and Don't Mess With Texas. If it seems a bit contradictory, it is.

I took pictures, but they aren't all that exciting because Texas is basically a desert...and then later a swamp. And we just wanted to get to San Antonio before dark. I'm glad we did because now I'm at my mom's place having some fabulous vodka cocktails in an air conditioned apartment.

Tomorrow I will definitely take in some Texas culture and share more interesting news.

Road Trip Day 1: Cactus and State Prison

Day 1 around noon: I'm about three quarters of the way through Arizona, and the most interesting thing I've seen so far is a pair of road signs that gave me a chuckle. The first sign read: State Prison Ahead -- and directly below that another sign read: DO NOT PICK UP HITCHHIKERS.

Also, the cactus are very cool and come in weird shapes.

Day 1 continued: The only place we stopped in New Mexico was at a Denny's to stretch, and two hookers were wandering around asking for change. Oh the beauty of the Southwest.

Right now it's around 11:00pm and we've finally reached El Paso, Texas-- which means two things: 1) I finally get to sleep! and 2) I've traveled through 4 states in 1 day, which is a record for me unless you count flying, which I DON'T.

Tomorrow I will try to take pictures...

Whatever: Blue Thursday

I want to be at Lollapalooza in Chicago right now and enjoy all the bands that will be playing at this music heaven.

I got the following recipe for Shrimp in Winde and Galic Sauce today via Janemag blog. Sound so yummy. Now I know what I will be having for dinner!

Shrimp in wine and garlic sauce
1/2 c. parsley, chopped
1 pound peeled shrimp
1/4 c. olive oil
1/2 c. white wine
4 wedges of garlic, crushed and sliced
Salt, pepper to taste

Heat garlic and a dash of salt in the oil on medium heat until lightly browned. Add shrimp, parsley and wine. Cook until shrimp turns bright pink and is firm to touch. (Sorry, Rachie, I lied and also added a couple secret pats of butter because I couldn't help myself. But you ate the cherry pie a
la mode, so you'll never know the difference.) Buy a baguette, and drink the rest of the wine. If you do the same with your friends, you'll be bff, too.

Whatever: The Barkers are in trouble?

I have to admit that Travis Barkers is quiet an attractive man. I heard that him and his beautiful wife is on the rock right now (gasp!). I don’t think they should be worried and feel left out. I mean aren’t all Hollywood couples are in these “can’t get along” trends these days. Its either they don’t get along at all and start sleeping with each other best friends (you know who I am talking about) or they just love each other to death till us part. ( Tomcat anyone?)
